What size button do you need?

Buttons are not measured in millimetres. They are measured in lignes, written as L. It is the word every button maker and garment factory uses.

40 lignes make one inch. So a 20L button is 20 out of 40 of an inch across, which is about 12.7 mm. If you know the ligne, you know the size.

Not sure? Put your old button on a ruler and measure straight across it, then tell us the millimetres. We will work out the ligne for you.

Questions buyers ask

Can I come and see the items before I buy?

Yes. It is our own shop at MKB Nagar in Chennai and buyers are welcome, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Message us first if you want a particular item and we will keep it ready.

What size button do I need?

Buttons are measured in lignes, written L. Forty lignes make one inch, so a 20L button is about 12.7 mm across. Shirt fronts are usually 18L to 20L and sleeves 16L to 18L. If you are unsure, measure your old button across the middle in millimetres and tell us the number.

What is your minimum order?

Tell us the item and how many you need, and we will tell you straight away whether we can do it. We would rather answer for your actual order than publish a number that turns out to be wrong.

Do you supply outside Chennai?

Yes. Tamil Nadu is our main market, and we also supply buyers in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. Enquiries are welcome from anywhere in India and from overseas buyers. Transport is arranged for each order once we know the item, the quantity and the destination.

Do you sell to tailors, or only to factories?

Both. We supply garment exporters, shirt manufacturers, clothing brands and individual tailors. Tell us what you are making and we will answer in a way that is useful for that.

What is the difference between shell buttons and imitation shell?

Shell buttons are cut from natural shell, so every button has its own grain and lustre and no two are identical. Imitation shell is polyester finished to look like it, which gives a more uniform appearance across a large order. Which one suits you depends on the garment and how consistent you need the batch to be.

How do I get a price?
